Lethal Garage Synthetics

I get asked a lot about what type of oil I use for my car. Not only do I have a suggested oil (AMSOIL), but in using AMSOIL products, I signed up as a preferred customer to save a few bucks over paying top dollar at shops. I now simply bring my 11 quarts with me and save about 25% over retail costs.

So. What AMSOIL Product do I use?
AMSOIL Z-ROD® 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

Why Z-Rod?
AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil is engineered for high-performance vehicles. It features a high-zinc formulation to prevent wear on flat-tappet camshafts and other critical engine components, along with a proprietary blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors for added protection during long-term storage. Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil is designed to perform on the street and protect during storage.

Why 10W-30 and not the GM recommended 5W-30?
It really comes down to your location. W stands for winter or the testing the oil passed in regards to how cool it can be out and still hold up to the elements / still work as advertised. While my car is based in SoCal, you never know where journeys can take you. But the 30 remains the same as the thickness/viscosity of the oil needs to be good at high temps as the oil in our cars is both splashed and shot in places, and a good coating is needed to limit wear overtime.

Stock Car with No Engine Mods?

Now I know many of you probably do not have a fully built Camaro or simply just want to make sure to use great oil to prolong the life of your car. If that is the case, AMSOIL has you covered as well and here is the oil I used before building the engine.

You have a few choices depending if you're on a budget or not, but all options will protect your ride and give you prolonged protection. But really the higher quality just gives you even better protection.
